It's a kind of witnessing meditation, where two people sit facing each other and take turns being the observer and the observed.
Nothing about it is complicated. One person watches, fully present, without fixing or narrating. The other is simply seen. Then you switch. The discipline isn't in the technique — it's in staying out of the way of what's actually there.
The hardest part isn't watching — it's not overwriting what you see with your own frame. I've caught myself doing it: reading my own story into someone else's experience and calling it understanding. That's not witnessing. That's projection wearing witnessing's clothes.
Meet the person as distinct and whole.
This practice sits alongside dance as the other half of how I stay in real contact with people — one seated and still, the other moving. Both are training in the same thing: reading what's actually happening instead of what I expect to be happening.
